Frequently asked questions
When is a business tax return due?
It depends on the entity. For calendar-year businesses, partnerships (Form 1065) and S corporations (Form 1120-S) are generally due on the 15th day of the third month after year end, and corporations (Form 1120) on the 15th day of the fourth month. Form 7004 requests more time to file.
Does a single-member LLC owned by a foreign person have to file anything?
Generally, yes. For Form 5472 purposes the IRS treats a foreign-owned U.S. single-member LLC as a corporation, so it files a pro forma Form 1120 with Form 5472 attached when it has reportable transactions with related parties. We confirm what applies to your company.
Should my LLC elect S corporation status?
It depends on ownership, profit and how the owners are paid. An S election brings payroll for owners who work in the business and limits on who can own shares, including no nonresident alien shareholders. We compare the options with your numbers before Form 2553 is filed.
Do you prepare Florida corporate tax returns?
Yes. Florida has a corporate income tax, and whether your business must file Form F-1120 depends on how it is taxed at the federal level. We confirm it and prepare the Florida return together with the federal one.
Can you work with a business whose owners live abroad?
Yes. We meet by video, exchange documents through the client portal and prepare the U.S. returns and information returns the company needs, in English or Spanish.
